Location

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Department Information

The Bagwell College of Education (BCOE) at KSU is one of the largest and strongest educator preparation providers in Georgia offering bachelors, masters, specialists, and doctoral degree programs on-campus, blended, and fully online.

All KSU educator preparation programs are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and many programs are additionally accredited by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). Bagwell is at the forefront of educator preparation, advancing educational excellence through innovative teaching, research, and service in an ever-changing digital and global learning environment. Bagwell has award-winning faculty and our graduates are sought after by school systems in Georgia and beyond.

As one of the larger departments at KSU, the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education has more than 80 full-time and part-time faculty members. The department serves over 1,000 Elementary and Early Childhood Education undergraduate majors and over 100 graduate majors. It offers programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Its M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education is offered online. Certification for pre-kindergarten to grade five is embedded in the undergraduate program. In addition, the department offers the Birth to Kindergarten Bachelor of Science degree program.

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University seeks a highly accomplished scholar and strategic leader to serve as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education in the with a preferred start date of July 1, 2025. This is a twelve-month administrative contracted position. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

As a key member of the College's administrative leadership team, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Cultivate excellence of the Department's academic programs and provide visionary leadership in developing innovative research, educational initiatives, and accreditation.
  • Lead, manage, and advocate for a growing department comprised of a dedicated faculty and staff promoting student success, with respect to the mission and expectations of the department, college and university.
  • Support, sustain, and expand the scholarly excellence of the department, and endeavor to be the leading program in the country.
  • Collaborate with the EECE faculty and partners, to design, execute, and align the department's strategic plan to that of the college and campus strategic plans.
  • Demonstrate effective and innovative leadership practices, including a commitment to shared governance.
  • Evaluate faculty and staff performance according to departmental and university guidelines.
  • Oversee the fiscal management of department resources.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctoral degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Elementary or Early Childhood Education or closely related field with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Professor in the Department of Elementary & Early Childhood Education in the Bagwell College of Education at KSU.
  • Demonstrated record of effective teaching, supervision, mentoring and professional service.
  • Demonstrated record of acquiring external funding, publishing in high-impact journals, and supporting research initiatives.
  • Evidence of building and sustaining a positive, supportive and inclusive workplace culture and climate.
  • Leadership experience in higher education, including evidence of organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience as a Birth - 12th grade educator.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a department chair or equivalent leadership, including strategic planning, managing budgets, and supervising personnel.
  • Demonstrated record of advocating for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Expertise in building and maintaining collaborative relationships and in sustaining effective communities of practice.
  • Experience with shared governance.
  • Experience with undergraduate and graduate program development and recruitment.
  • Experience with multiple modes of instructional delivery.
  • Experience acquiring external funding and supporting research initiatives.
  • Evidence of understanding the complexities of P-12 education and teacher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain partnerships with Birth - 12th grade schools.
  • Experience in using evidence-based research and best practices to design innovative solutions for enduring challenges in teacher preparation.
  • Demonstrated record of involvement in professional organizations at the state, regional, and national/international levels.
  • Experience with program assessment and accreditation.
